I recently was named as a Featured Artist at the upcoming Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy (San Diego). What a great compliment!
ArtWalk is April 28th and 29th this year- it's one of the largest art festivals in SoCal. And it's always a lot of fun. I'll be in Booth 127 on the corner of Beech and Kettner. More details to come, but just wanted to share the good news.

Here are a couple of small paintings I've recently completed. I love this series and can't wait to paint some more. Here are a couple of others "Discovery" and "Tidepooler".

ZLAC Rowing Club paintings
This past summer I had a great opportunity to go out and take some photos of one of the Women's rowing teams from ZLAC Rowing Club. I used these as reference for a series of paintings that were presented at the Club in August. Here are a few, more on the website.

Dos Picos Paintings
Time for a little catch-up as I've been less than timely with blog posts. Here are a couple of paintings I did on location while camping at Dos Picos Park in Ramona, CA this past spring. This was a terrific location that I hope to return to, just as soon as it cools off.

ArtWalk 2008 this weekend

ArtWalk is now upon us. April 26th and 27th in Little Italy from noon to 6pm, I will be enjoying the festivities at booth # 108 on Beech St. near the Trolley crossing. I am really excited about this event and will have many new paintings on display. Stop by and say 'hi'!
In addition to the booth, I have also donated a bench to ArtReach, a non-profit organization benefiting art in the local schools. Several ArtWalk artists have donated benches- they can be previewed here and on display on India St. near Date St. They will be auctioned off during ArtWalk.

San Diego River through Mast Park
It has been a while since I've posted, but I have been busy painting. A trip up to Northern California was beautiful and quite inspirational. This painting is a local one, though, from before the trip. We ventured out to Mast Park in Santee- my first time painting there.
It was an overcast morning on the River when I started, but the sun broke through by the time I finished. I tried to stay true to the initial impression and not chase the day. We have another visit planned here Friday.

The Aquarium
Now for something a little different. Birch Aquarium has an amazing 70,000 gallon kelp forest tank and a seated viewing area where visitors can check out a variety of fish. It is such a neat experience to sit down in front of this huge window of glass and watch the fish go by. The kids were mesmerized!
You can see it live with this "kelp cam."

Famosa Slough Colors
I started this painting on location this summer and finally took another look at it (in the studio) this weekend. I will rarely go back and do this much on a plein air piece. This one was just a block-in at the end of the first session and I've had it in the studio waiting for a finish. I was really drawn to the wonderfully vibrant yellows and oranges in the foreground. What a surprise it was!

SD River Estuary in Fall

What a beautiful day it was overlooking the estuary. This was done in the afternoon, looking east. I've been to this spot before, in the spring, and what a different scene this was. This fall, the estuary was golden with little water running through it. It was good to get back out there!

Lake Hodges Eucalyptus

Lake Hodges Eucalyptus, 10x8, oil on linen panel
There's a lot to paint around Lake Hodges and I love painting eucalyptus trees especially. I did this one mid-afternoon, so the shadows and lighting weren't as great as they could be- but I hope I captured what I could of the tree's character.
